Gathering in the Women's Ward of Evin Prison with the Slogan 'Woman, Life, Freedom'

On the eve of the second anniversary of the 'Woman, Life, Freedom' protests, a number of female political prisoners gathered in the women's ward of Evin Prison and chanted slogans. This gathering took place on the evening of Saturday, September 24, and the prisoners chanted protest slogans and sang songs. The Bidarzani website and Narges Mohammadi's social media accounts reported that the number of participating prisoners exceeded 25. These sources also published an audio file in which the voices of the prisoners chanting and singing can be heard. Some of the slogans heard in this file include 'In Your Name, which is our code name,' 'Zan, Zindagi, Azadi,' 'Reformists and Principlists, the story is over,' and 'If my head goes, my life goes, but freedom never goes.' According to reports, these female prisoners, who have been pursuing the 'No to Execution Tuesdays' campaign for over six months, also chanted 'The women’s ward of Evin stands united and committed until the abolition of the death penalty.' According to Bidarzani and Narges Mohammadi's Instagram account, the prisoners also burned their scarves in the prison yard in protest against the policies of suppressing women and announced that in solidarity with the people, they would go on a hunger strike on Sunday. The women's ward of Evin Prison has faced pressures in recent months, such as phone cuts and the opening of new cases against its inmates. On August 7, security forces violently disrupted the 'No to Execution Tuesdays' gathering in this ward. The severe government crackdown and the risk of protests going 'underground' are concerning.
