German Christian Democratic Party Calls for Halt to Citizenship Reform Policy

The Christian Democratic Party of Germany has called for a "halt to the citizenship reform policy" in the country. According to the website "Tagesschau," affiliated with German state television, anti-Semitic slogans and the expansion of protests in favor of Palestinians have prompted this demand from the Christian Democratic Party. Previously, learning the German language, gaining experience, integrating into German society, and learning a profession were part of the laws granting German citizenship, which are now challenged by the increase in anti-Semitic behavior in Germany following Hamas's "terrorist attack" on Israel. Carsten Linnemann, the Secretary-General of the Christian Democratic Party, told the "Bild" newspaper: "The events of the past few days and weeks have shown that neither citizenship nor merely speaking the German language leads to integration with our society and values." He urged the federal government of Germany to stop the planned reforms of the citizenship law, stating that under the current political conditions, reforming citizenship laws "is not a solution but only creates new problems and should be halted." Additionally, German officials have discussed expelling Hamas supporters from Germany. Since Hamas's attack on Israel and the increase in anti-Semitic behavior, with over two thousand criminal offenses recorded in Germany, the government has repeatedly emphasized the need to change immigration laws. The German government is trying to enhance its appeal to attract skilled labor more than ever. Nancy Faeser, Germany's Interior Minister, has announced one of the new law reforms as issuing work permits in the shortest possible time. It has been reported that under the new laws, refugees can enter the labor market after three or at most six months. The federal government of Germany is attempting to attract skilled and talented workers to work in the country with the approval of the immigration law, which has now faced criticism. The Interior Minister recently stated that citizens exhibiting anti-Semitic behavior would be expelled from the country. He added, "If someone who celebrates passionately in the streets of Germany does not have German citizenship, then they should be expelled from Germany." The Interior Minister's statements have also received support from the leader of the Social Democratic Party of Germany. Michael Fischer, head of the Berlin Office for the Protection of the Constitution (internal security agency), has recently warned about the potential radicalization in Germany.
