German Police Arrest Individual Linked to Berlin Attack Perpetrator

A spokesperson for the German federal prosecutor announced on Wednesday that the police have arrested a Tunisian citizen linked to the main perpetrator of the Christmas market attack in Berlin that left 12 dead. According to Reuters, Frak Kohler, the spokesperson for the federal prosecutor's office, stated that the police searched the home of 'Bilal A.', 26, after discovering that he had dined with Anis Amri, the main suspect in the attack, on December 19, one day before the attack. He added that the investigation into this 26-year-old Tunisian and his possible connection to the attack is ongoing. Anis Amri, 24, also a Tunisian national, was pursued as the main suspect in the deadly Berlin Christmas market attack until he was killed in a confrontation with police in Milan, Italy, on December 23. According to Reuters, Amri had fled Germany to the Netherlands, Belgium, France, and finally Italy. The Islamic State group claimed responsibility for the attack on the Berlin Christmas market. Frak Kohler stated that investigations indicate that Anis Amri had dinner with another Tunisian in a restaurant in central Berlin the night before the attack, and they had a 'heated argument.' The federal prosecutor's spokesperson added that this has led police officials to suspect Bilal A.'s possible involvement or knowledge of the attack. According to the report, police officials are examining the communication devices of this suspect after searching his home located in a refugee accommodation. Anis Amri arrived in southern Italy in 2011 with a group of other migrants and was arrested after attempting to set fire to a school in Sicily, spending four years in prison before moving to Germany.
