German State Parliament Member: Yasser Rahmani-Rad Has Been Threatened with Death

Fadime Tuncer, a member of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament in Germany, announced that, based on received reports, Dr. Yasser Rahmani-Rad has been threatened with death by the Islamic Republic. Ms. Tuncer wrote on her Instagram page: "Dr. Yasser Rahmani-Rad was previously arrested during the Woman, Life, Freedom revolution. Once again, as his political sponsor, I urge the Islamic Republic to guarantee his safety instead of threatening him with death." Mr. Rahmani-Rad was arrested last Azar (December) along with Behnam Ohadi, a psychiatrist, and Homayoun Eftekhariannia, an operating room technician, while traveling to Mahabad to assist the injured during protests, and was released on bail after 46 days of "imprisonment and torture." A week ago, he posted on his Instagram: "I am in perfect mental and physical health and have no intention of suicide nor any underlying illness." This doctor from Khorramabad added: "I have exposed many of the tortures I have experienced and the signs of torture I have seen on other prisoners in other prisons in Iran" in interviews with predominantly Persian and non-Persian media. His reference was to the time he spent imprisoned in Mahabad. Following that, some reports indicated threats against Yasser Rahmani-Rad. On his Twitter page, Mr. Rahmani-Rad introduced himself as "a dismissed pediatric specialist, a dismissed doctor from Haft Tappeh, and recently a prisoner rescuer." About three years ago, when he was a physician at Haft Tappeh, he was dismissed for supporting the workers' strike at the company. In the past, several released political prisoners have spoken of threats from security agents after reporting on the conditions of prisons and the torture of detainees following the death of Mahsa Amini in the custody of the morality police. In this context, Mansoureh Sagvand, a former honorary member of the police force in Abdanan, Ilam province, suspiciously died after resigning in protest from the police force on Sunday, June 4.
