Germany Arrests Three Suspects for Spying on a Ukrainian Citizen

The statement mentioned the operations of these three foreign nationals to identify a café in Frankfurt on Wednesday, June 19, which was supposed to be the location of the targeted Ukrainian citizen. In recent months, Germany has successfully identified multiple instances of espionage within the country. These include a Russian suspect's sabotage plan at American military facilities, suspicions of espionage for China by an employee of a European Union lawmaker, and a case involving the provision of sensitive technology to China by three suspected German citizens. According to a report released this week by Germany's domestic security agency, following the expulsion of six hundred Russian diplomats from European countries—an action considered a significant intelligence blow to Russia—this country has attempted to use extortion and financial incentives to recruit German citizens for espionage purposes. The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution of Germany reported on Tuesday, June 18, that despite Western efforts to limit their operations since Moscow's invasion of Ukraine, Russian intelligence services have spent significant amounts to recruit spies in Germany.
