Gholian Family Warns About Narges Mohammadi's Condition in Evin; They Are Killing Her

Mehdi, the brother of Sepideh Gholian, a political prisoner held in Evin, warned on Instagram on Tuesday about a life-threatening situation for Narges Mohammadi, stating: "I spoke with Sepideh. She said Narges Mohammadi is dying. She said they are killing Narges." Mr. Gholian further quoted Sepideh: "It is true that Narges has only been on hunger strike for a few days, but it seems her body cannot handle it anymore. They have taken her strength away; however, not her resilience. Some prisoners have gone on hunger strike in support of Narges, and if Narges Mohammadi is not transferred, the entire ward may go on hunger strike. Narges is standing in the right place; she says your compulsory hijab is like death." Mehdi Gholian also emphasized: "I am not speaking on behalf of Sepideh but on behalf of the Gholian family. Everyone should know that if anything happens to Ms. Narges Mohammadi due to pressure, we will express our protest in front of the prosecutor's office." Narges Mohammadi, imprisoned in Evin prison, has been on hunger strike since Tuesday, November 6, in protest against "the Islamic Republic's policy of delaying and neglecting medical care for sick prisoners" and against "the policy of either death or compulsory hijab for women in Iran." Iranian authorities have conditioned her transfer to medical facilities on her compliance with compulsory hijab. According to information posted on the Instagram page attributed to Narges Mohammadi, she has been prevented from being taken to the hospital at least twice since September 4, and by order of the prosecutor, she "must not be sent to the hospital under any circumstances" without a headscarf. Narges Mohammadi previously stated that in memory of the "martyrdom of Armita," she would not tolerate compulsory hijab. The American PEN Association has also expressed increasing concerns about Narges Mohammadi's health and security and called for her unconditional release. The Nobel Committee awarded her the Peace Prize on October 6 for her fight against oppression and injustice towards women in Iran. Born in 1972 in Zanjan, she has been arrested and imprisoned multiple times over the past two decades. In her latest legal case, she was sentenced to 10 years in prison for "anti-government propaganda" and is currently held in Evin prison in Tehran.
