Global Student Assembly Calls for Immediate Release of 'Daughter of Science and Research'

The statement noted that her detention exemplifies the deep oppression faced by Iranian women daily, who sometimes risk their security and freedom to express dissatisfaction with these restrictive laws. The assembly also demanded an immediate, independent, and impartial investigation into reports of mistreatment of this detained student and expressed solidarity with Iranian women and students who 'demand personal freedom, dignity, and security.' The statement further highlighted that students and youth should not face violence or repression for expressing their opinions. According to reports, Ahoo Daryayi undressed in the university courtyard after 'security guards' confronted her over her hijab. Amir Kabir News reported on November 4 that Ahoo Daryayi, a 30-year-old student in her seventh semester of French language studies at Islamic Azad University, was sent to Iran Psychiatric Hospital on the Special Road after being arrested by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps intelligence. One social media user recounted witnessing security and university Basij forces forcibly attempting to take a female student into a security booth for not wearing a hijab and scarf, but due to her resistance, her clothing (a hoodie) was torn off, revealing only her underwear.
