Gohar Eshghi and Kamal Jafari Yazdi: There is Little Time Left for the People's Final Decision with the Repressive Agents

Gohar Eshghi and Kamal Jafari Yazdi, two signatories of the letter known as "Fourteen Signatures" calling for the ousting of Ali Khamenei, stated in a statement that "there is little time left for the people's final decision with the repressive agents." In the statement published on Gohar Eshghi's account on the social media platform "X," it is mentioned that gender discrimination and systematic oppression are the main causes of the "Women, Life, Freedom" revolution. The statement also refers to executions and emphasizes that they have "created an atmosphere of despair, frustration, and public mourning." These two civil activists have declared the result of this social depression to be the suicide of youth and adolescents, widespread emigration, and even the flight of elites from the country, along with a severe decline in the quality of life for young people. The statement also addresses the current conditions in Iran, stating that "the government, by raising a false election that is, at best, a sham appointment, seeks to present a show of legitimacy and pseudo-democracy to the world." The two signatories of the "Fourteen Signatures" letter also urged the Iranian people not to remain silent against the divisive tactics and oppression of the regime and not to allow false pretexts to pit Iranians against each other and distract their attention from the main problems of the country by creating a bipolar atmosphere. The statement adds: "The result of the corrupt and incompetent government of the Islamic Republic is widespread poverty and misery among our compatriots, waste of resources, spending huge amounts of money on regional provocations, and theft and embezzlement of Iran's national treasury." The removal of meat, chicken, eggs, protein, fruits, bread, and many basic items from people's tables is also referred to in this statement as a "clear catastrophe," emphasizing that "today, the majority of our people are only seeking to survive, not to live." Ms. Eshghi and Mr. Jafari Yazdi stated that "as long as the current regime continues its unchecked corruption and violence, there will be no hope for saving this country." At the end of the statement, it is emphasized that "the people of Iran have no enmity with any nation in the world, and Iranians abroad should also move in the right direction of the Women, Life, Freedom revolution and reflect the voices of compatriots inside the country, not allowing political opportunists to exploit their emotions." Gohar Eshghi is the mother of Sattar Beheshti, who was arrested by cyber police on November 9, 2012, and died in custody a few days later on November 13, 2012. After Mr. Beheshti's death, several prisoners testified that he had been tortured. Ms. Eshghi has repeatedly emphasized in her interviews and speeches the torture and killing of her child in prison. Kamal Jafari Yazdi is also one of the 14 signatories of a letter addressed to Ali Khamenei in June 2019, calling for his resignation and a change to the Iranian constitution. They stated that the current constitution has created a "sham parliament, a powerless government, and an independent judiciary." Gohar Eshghi reacted to the execution of Mohammad Qabadi and Farhad Salimi by saying to Khamenei: "You should sit with the grief of Mojtaba."
