Gohar Eshghi: Do not forget the anniversary of Mahsa and 'the young people who died for Iran'

Gohar Eshghi, the mother of Sattar Beheshti, a blogging worker who was killed during interrogation and while in custody, urged people in a video not to forget the anniversary of 'my daughter Mahsa Amini' and 'the young people who died for Iran.' Saturday, September 16 marks the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death in the custody of the Islamic Republic's morality police, and many opponents are calling for the resumption of nationwide protests against the regime on this occasion. Last December, Gohar Eshghi stated that if the Islamic Republic were to be destroyed, she would cook 'kotlet' for her sons and daughters. 'Kotlet' is a reference among many opponents to the manner of Qassem Soleimani's death. Fatemeh Sepahri, a political prisoner in Iran, also sent a message through her brother on Tuesday, calling for the resumption of protests on the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death. Previously, Shahbanu Farah Pahlavi had issued a message on the anniversary of Mahsa (Zhina) Amini's death in custody and 'other martyrs of the path to freedom,' calling for unity 'to keep the flame of the Woman, Life, Freedom revolution alive.' Matthew Miller, spokesperson for the U.S. State Department, had previously stated in response to a question from a VOA Persian reporter that the Islamic Republic has not learned from recent protests. John Kirby, the National Security Council's Strategic Communications Coordinator at the White House, also stated: 'After the death of Mahsa Amini and the public protests, the people of Iran should now be able to make decisions for themselves and women should choose their own dress.' Messages from Prince Reza Pahlavi and other activists have also emerged as the anniversary approaches, with various demonstrations and expressions of hope for a 'rebirth of Iran.'
