Gohar Eshghi's Hunger Strike; Sahar Beheshti Warns: If Anything Happens, the Government is Responsible

Sahar Beheshti, sister of Sattar Beheshti who was killed in 2012 'for blogging', on Sunday referred to the hunger strike of their mother, Gohar Eshghi, in pursuit of justice for Sattar and in support of imprisoned activists in the Islamic Republic, reporting threats from the government. Last week, Gohar Eshghi stated in her first video message shared on social media that if the mother of Shahrayar Mohammadi, one of the victims of the nationwide protests in 2022, is not released, she will go on a hunger strike in front of the United Nations office in Tehran as a form of protest. On Sunday, the mother of Sattar Beheshti reiterated her decision to strike in another video message, stating that if the forces of Ali Khamenei prevent her, she will strike in front of Imamzadeh Saleh and welcomes anyone who joins her. Sahar Beheshti wrote late Sunday on Instagram, 'My mother, Gohar Eshghi, has declared a hunger strike based on her own thoughts and beliefs. Since the day Sattar was killed, my mother has never found peace, especially when she sees news of the dead, prisoners, and the painful conditions of workers.' She added, 'I told her not to do this, but she reacted harshly to me. Now the news of her strike has been published by her supporters, and agents of the Islamic Republic are threatening me. I had no role in this decision and I do not have any!' She warned, 'If anything happens to me or my family, the government is responsible. If I am arrested, I declare here: from that moment, I will go on a hunger strike and will not let any fear enter my heart. I will leave them with the regret of any sigh and will continue my strike until I join my Sattar.'
