Google Duplex; Conversation with Google's Artificial Intelligence

Google Duplex is one of Google's latest initiatives, much of which remains confidential as engineers continue to work on the system. Nonetheless, Google has invited a limited number of technology journalists to an event to discuss this new service. In Google Duplex, the machine can speak to you over the phone without you realizing you are conversing with a device. This has led many to criticize the system as unethical. The AI in this system has advanced to the point where it can simulate many human behaviors in speech. Critics argue that this system is deceptive; people speaking with it believe they are conversing with a human, not a machine! Duplex and self-driving cars are among several services utilizing Google's AI project. Some critics fear that this AI could be used in the development of military capabilities, ultimately aiding in the production of killer robots. To demonstrate the system's capabilities, Google showcased this ability practically. In a phone call, the Google Assistant calls a hair salon to make an appointment. Google system: 'I am calling to make an appointment; could you check the date of May 3 for me?' Person on the phone: 'Of course, please hold on a moment...' Google system: 'Hmm...' Person on the phone: 'What time would you like?' Google system: 'For 12 o'clock.' Person on the phone: 'Is 10 o'clock good?' Google system: '10 o'clock is also fine.' One important aspect of this conversation is that the device even attempts to imitate human behaviors to seem real, as seen when the device says 'Hmm' to the person on the line. This shows how far Google has developed its AI system. Google Duplex operates in a way that appears natural, leading individuals conversing with it to believe they are talking to a human rather than a machine. To demonstrate how advanced this system is, Google gathered several technology journalists at a restaurant to showcase its capabilities. During this event, a journalist asked one of Google's executives how they plan to address ethical issues. Perhaps people would not want to talk to a machine. The Google executive's response was, 'This system introduces itself at the beginning of the conversation and states that it is the Google Assistant.' As reported by some technology sites like TechCrunch, journalists attempted to challenge the system. In some cases, the AI respectfully ended the call, while in others, the system failed to provide an appropriate response. This indicates that the system still has a long way to go before commercialization. Google has also stated that this system is still in its early stages. In one instance, when a journalist asked the system to repeat the last few digits of a number, the system repeated the entire number. These tests show that the AI still has many weaknesses, contrary to much of the advertising. In May of this year, when Google was developing its self-driving car technology, the question arose again about when these cars would be safe after one of Google's self-driving cars was involved in an accident. Some experts say that if the Google car had been human-driven, it might have reacted better, but the AI failed to analyze the incident correctly and respond appropriately. Self-driving cars need to develop AI alongside very fast processors to make the quickest and best decisions in challenging conditions. This is also true for the development of Duplex. For a call, the user connects to Google Duplex using Google Assistant, and this system calls the desired individual based on AI hardware and software. The system can only function correctly when the AI has matured, whereas AI is still in its infancy.
