Greek Anti-Terrorism Police: 7 Arrested Including 3 Iranians for Attacking Jewish Targets in Athens

On Thursday, July 5, the Greek anti-terrorism police announced the arrest of 7 individuals, including 3 Iranians, on charges of attacking a hotel and restaurant owned by an Israeli citizen and a synagogue in central Athens this year. According to the statement, a 25-year-old Greek woman, two Iranian men aged 46 and 36, and a 44-year-old Afghan man were arrested for launching a firebomb attack on the hotel and restaurant owned by an Israeli citizen on May 15 of this year. These four individuals are accused of causing a fire that endangered lives and damaging property belonging to non-Greek citizens with racist motives. The Greek anti-terrorism police added that in a separate attack on June 19, a 44-year-old Greek citizen and a 26-year-old Afghan, riding a motorcycle near a synagogue in Athens, threw incendiary materials at the entrance of the synagogue, causing a fire. According to the statement, a 30-year-old Iranian citizen was also arrested in connection with this incident. The charges against these three include arson, possession of weapons, and theft. The Greek anti-terrorism police also reported the discovery and seizure of evidence, including mobile phones, at a residence in Athens and in prison. Five of the detainees are in custody, while two others have been released under restrictions pending trial. Earlier in the Iranian calendar year 1402, the Greek police arrested two individuals on charges of membership in a group that had conspired to attack the aforementioned restaurant and synagogue.
