The imperative for effective international action to halt executions The criminal mullahs’ regime, besieged by domestic and foreign crises and terrified of an uprising flaring up, continues to carry out executions relentlessly and on a daily basis. The recorded number of executions from May 3 to May 13 is 20, but the actual number is undoubtedly higher, as the regime keeps the names and number of those executed a secret, except in specific cases.

On Wednesday, May 13, the regime’s judiciary announced that it had executed 33-year-old Ehsan Afreshteh, who was arrested in April 2024, on charges of “espionage and intelligence cooperation in favor of Israel.” On Monday, May 11, the regime’s judiciary also announced the execution of 29-year-old Erfan Shakourzadeh, who was arrested in February 2025 by the IRGC Intelligence, on charges of cooperating with the “US and Israeli intelligence services and selling the country’s scientific information.”

On Tuesday, May 12, Younes Barahoui was hanged in Birjand, and on Sunday, May 10, 26-year-old Omid Sadeghi-Souri was hanged in Tabriz.

On Wednesday, May 6, four prisoners were hanged by the executioners. Shahab Azimi, 31, was hanged in Ardabil; Behnam Abdi in Qazvin; and Sirous Ramezan, 31, and Mohammad Taqi Shahveisi in Kermanshah.

On Monday, May 4, 30-year-old Massoud Shirzad and 32-year-old Qassem Nouri Roudini were executed in Isfahan.

On Sunday, May 3, eight prisoners were sent to the gallows, including 33-year-old Mehdi Badfar, 29-year-old Abbas Rahimi-Azar, Mohammad Reza Mohammadi, and Peyman Mohammadi in Isfahan.

The names of the six other executed prisoners were mentioned in previous statements.

The Iranian Resistance strongly condemns these brutal and arbitrary executions, which are carried out to instill fear and terror, and calls for immediate and effective action by the United Nations to halt executions in Iran. It once again reiterates the imperative for an international fact-finding mission to visit Iran’s prisons and meet with prisoners, particularly political prisoners.
