Hakeem Jeffries in Israel: The fate of judicial reforms should not affect U.S. military support for Israel

Hakeem Jeffries, the Democratic leader in the House of Representatives, stated in Jerusalem: "The United States should not allow the fate of judicial reforms to affect military support for Israel." According to the Times of Israel, Jeffries spoke about the "need to ensure the maintenance of Israel's military superiority, regardless of the outcome of judicial reforms in the country." He described the internal conflict in Israel in more moderate terms and argued that "both countries face similar challenges regarding the nature of their democracies." The Democratic leader further added: "The ties that connect us within the framework of democracy are strong. At a time when both countries are concerned about the weakening of democratic structures, it is important that both emerge from this period by strengthening and supporting democracy, not undermining it." Jeffries, along with Steny Hoyer, the former majority leader, and Steny Hoyer, a congressional representative, leads a 24-member delegation of Democrats that is also set to discuss extremism and Iran's nuclear capabilities. Members of the "far-left wing" of the House of Representatives recently opposed a Republican-led resolution stating that "Israel is not an apartheid state." However, Jeffries stated that there is no danger to his party regarding its approach to the "Jewish state." He emphasized: "The Democratic Party in the House of Representatives will continue to support Israel in promoting special relations between the two countries and supporting Israel's right as the homeland of the Jews and as a democratic Jewish state." Joe Biden, the U.S. President from the Democratic Party, supports a two-state solution to end the conflict between Israelis and Palestinians. Biden has also expressed his opposition to Benjamin Netanyahu's plan to make changes without broad support in Israel's judicial system. The White House publicly expressed its displeasure with the approval of the first provisions of this law in July. The United States has recently expressed concern over the increase in violence under Israel's "far-right government." This delegation previously met with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who called for a "credible military threat" to deter the Islamic Republic's nuclear program. According to Netanyahu, "The most important thing is to create a credible military threat against the Islamic Republic. The other issue is its use." The Israeli Prime Minister continued: "We do not want a world where Iran can threaten New York or Washington or Los Angeles... using nuclear weapons." He noted: "Certainly, we will not have a world where they can destroy Israel, which they call a one-bomb country. This is a hateful statement, but it tells you their intent." The Israeli Prime Minister stressed: "Regardless of any agreement, we will defend ourselves with everything we have." Opponents of judicial reforms in Israel have protested for 31 consecutive weeks across the country, holding the largest gatherings in Tel Aviv and Jerusalem. Netanyahu once again called for a "credible military threat" against the Islamic Republic. Four Syrian soldiers were killed in an Israeli attack in Damascus. Hamas sentenced seven Palestinians to death on charges of "collaborating with Israel." The U.S. and Israel discussed the threat of Hezbollah in Lebanon and Iran's destabilizing actions.
