Hamas Planned Attacks on Israeli Embassy and US Military Base in Germany

Israeli media reported on Sunday, June 6, citing the German newspaper "Welt am Sonntag," that "a Hamas terrorist cell intended to carry out terrorist attacks on the Israeli embassy in Berlin and a US military base in Germany." The newspaper reported on Saturday under the title "Germany Faces New Dimensions of Terrorist Attacks," citing sources in the country's security services, that the Palestinian extremist Islamic organization Hamas was planning attacks in Germany. According to the report, the suspect, who is of Lebanese descent, received his orders from Hamas operatives in Lebanon. "Welt am Sonntag" noted that these targets were found on the smartphone of the suspect, who was arrested in December of last year in Berlin, the capital of Germany, and the German prosecutor accused him of "trying to find a place to hide weapons in Europe." The German prosecutor added: "The connection with the military branch of Hamas in Lebanon is broader than previously known." According to "The Times of Israel," the Israeli Prime Minister's Office revealed about five months ago that Hamas operates a network of operatives in Europe commanded by terrorist leaders in Lebanon, with the aim of attacking Jewish and Israeli targets abroad. The German Interior Minister announced in November of last year that the activities of Hamas, which is listed as a terrorist organization in the country, as well as the Palestinian group "Samidoun," are banned. Nancy Faeser stated: "The network of the terrorist organization Hamas and Samidoun, under the guise of supporting Palestinian prisoners in Israel, aims to destroy the state of Israel, attack organizations and homes of Jews, and promote anti-Semitic propaganda." Germany, along with other EU members, the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, and Israel, are among the countries that have listed Hamas, supported by the Islamic Republic, as a terrorist organization.
