Hamas Reports: 195 Killed in Israeli Attacks on Jabalia Camp

The militant group Hamas announced on Thursday, November 2, that at least 195 Palestinians were killed and 120 others were missing in two Israeli attacks on the Jabalia camp in the Gaza Strip. The group, which controls the Gaza Strip, added that around 780 others were injured. Reuters has reported that it cannot independently verify these figures. Previously, Hamas had published casualty figures accusing Israel of attacking the Al-Ahli hospital in the Gaza Strip, which was later found to have a significantly lower death toll from an explosion caused by a rocket from the Islamic Jihad group. According to Hamas, more than 8,500 people have been killed as a result of Israeli military attacks, most of whom are civilians. In contrast, the Israeli Ministry of Defense announced the deaths of two Hamas commanders following attacks on Jabalia, stating that the camp was targeted under conditions where Hamas had "command centers and other terrorist infrastructure beneath, around, and inside civilian buildings," deliberately endangering civilian lives. Israel has previously accused Hamas of using civilians as human shields. Israel, which is designated as a terrorist organization by the U.S. and some countries, accuses Hamas of having a vast network of tunnels beneath Gaza, including under some hospitals, where it is believed weapons, food, and other supplies are stored.
