Hanna Neumann: Efforts to List IRGC as a Terrorist Organization Continue

The head of the Iran section in the European Parliament, Hanna Neumann, referred to her efforts and those of the EU's foreign policy chief to place the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) on the list of terrorist organizations, noting that some European countries oppose this action. In an interview with the Persian section of Voice of America, she did not name these countries. She stated that since the beginning of the 'Women, Life, Freedom' movement, the European Parliament has focused on the issue of listing the IRGC as a terrorist organization. Neumann added, 'We continue to pay attention to the requests of the opponents of the Islamic Republic and, together with Josep Borrell, the EU's foreign policy chief, we are working to inform other European governments about the actions of the IRGC, both outside Iran and against the people of Iran.' She emphasized that both she and the European Parliament 'are still working to achieve this action.' Previously, on December 27 of this year, she mentioned on the social media platform 'X' that the Iranian government uses artificial intelligence to suppress dissent, stating that these technologies have become powerful tools for controlling and limiting individual freedoms by the Islamic Republic. Neumann discussed how the Iranian government employs AI in various areas such as facial recognition, online surveillance, and predicting protests, highlighting the use of cameras equipped with facial recognition technology to identify women opposing compulsory hijab as a significant issue. According to her, the IRGC utilizes these technologies to send warnings and target women opposing compulsory hijab in public spaces. This Green Party representative in the European Parliament also stated in her speech on October 25 that every country is focused on exporting something, and 'the Iranian regime exports terror and repression.' Neumann called for the annulment of the sentences against Pakhshan Azizi and Varishe Moradi and urged action against human rights violations in Iran.
