Hanna Neumann to Borrell: Instead of Meeting with Representatives of the Islamic Republic, Meet with Representatives of a Free Iran

Hanna Neumann, the German representative in the European Parliament, addressed Josep Borrell, the EU's foreign policy chief, during a session on Tuesday, stating: "Europe's policy towards the Islamic Republic has failed" and "the time for action has come"; we must think about a "new policy". According to Voice of America, Hanna Neumann emphasized: "You are here to explain the EU's policy, but why has this policy differed from what we have asked of you?" At the same time, the German representative in the European Parliament referred to behaviors such as the "exchange of European hostages" for "convicted terrorists" in Europe, saying: "The Islamic Republic continues its proxy wars and its drones kill people in Ukraine." Furthermore, Hanna Neumann criticized the "meetings" of European foreign policy officials with representatives of the Islamic Republic, stating: "Instead of meeting with representatives of the Islamic Republic, meet with representatives of a free Iran who can restore freedom to Iran." Anna Fotyga: The JCPOA has emboldened the Islamic Republic. Also, Anna Fotyga, a member of the European Parliament from Poland and Secretary-General of the European Conservatives and Reformists Party, who was previously the Polish Foreign Minister, on Tuesday in the European Parliament session, referring to the "popular uprising" in Iran, criticized the JCPOA agreement, emphasizing that with "this agreement," the Islamic Republic has become bolder in suppressing the people and also European citizens. The Polish MEP added that the JCPOA has not brought any positive achievements and has made the Islamic Republic bolder in its terrorist activities. Anders Vistisen: The 'Islamic terrorist' regime commits terrorism in Europe. Additionally, Anders Vistisen, another member of the European Parliament, referring to the "revolutionary protests" of the people in Iran, emphasized: "The Islamic terrorist regime commits terrorism in Europe and also restricts the freedom of expression of European citizens." This MEP added: "Some European countries are asking their people to limit their freedoms to respect Islam." Josep Borrell, the EU's foreign policy chief, also stated in this session that as a result of the EU's reactions to the suppression of protests following the killing of Mahsa Amini in the custody of the morality police, the EU's relations with Iran have undergone a "clear change." Mr. Borrell made this statement in a speech in the European Parliament on the eve of the anniversary of Mahsa Amini's death. He said: "We are all horrified by the way the authorities of the Islamic Republic deal with domestic political dissenters. We consider their response to the protests unacceptable." Mr. Borrell stated that the response of the Islamic Republic's authorities to the protests has led to "death, unjust arrests, and suffering." He told European Parliament lawmakers that in Iran, "civil liberties, especially freedom of expression, freedom of the press, and the right to assemble freely have been suppressed with greater violence over the past year." According to the EU's foreign policy chief, the repressive actions of the Islamic Republic during this time have included the use of "capital punishment." He noted that the speed of executions has increased over the past year and that "we consider most of them to be violations of UN conventions to which Iran itself has acceded." He called these actions very concerning and stated: "We have communicated this to Iranian officials."
