Ali Daei, the captain of the Iranian national football team, scored his 86th international goal against Lebanon, leading Iran to a narrow victory in the Asian Cup qualifying matches. According to the Iranian Students News Agency (ISNA), the Asian Football Confederation reported: 'Daei's header in the 22nd minute propelled Iran to the top of Group D, surpassing Jordan on goal difference. The Iranian national team, missing key players Mehdi Mahdavikia and Ali Karimi, relied heavily on Daei, who converted a serious opportunity in the first half into a goal.' The report continued: 'Lebanon also attempted to equalize in the closing minutes of the first half but was unsuccessful. In the second half, both teams launched multiple attacks, and even in the 65th minute, Daei could have scored his second goal, but his header hit the ground before entering the goal and went out over the crossbar. In the 86th minute, Daei failed to capitalize on a chance created by Ali Samereh for the third time, and aside from the first-half goal, the goal of 'Ziad Samad' remained closed.
