Hassan Rouhani: America Promised to Correct Its Actions Regarding the JCPOA

Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, after returning from the United Nations General Assembly, stated that the ministers of the Joint Commission overseeing the implementation of the JCPOA told the United States that its actions are not in accordance with the agreement. Rouhani's remarks were reflected on Friday, October 2, in the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA), indicating that the Joint Commission held two meetings at the level of directors-general and ministers during the UN General Assembly in New York, both of which were considered a type of 'success' for Iran. The Iranian President stated: 'In the meeting of the ministers of the Joint Commission overseeing the implementation of the JCPOA, everyone told the U.S. that the actions you are taking are not in line with the JCPOA, and the U.S. promised to correct this process.' Rouhani used terms like 'disruption in banking affairs' and some 'delays and negligence' to explain these U.S. actions. The day before, during his speech at the UN General Assembly, he also accused the U.S. of 'dawdling' in fulfilling its commitments. Hours after this speech, in a press conference, he referred to issues such as the delays by the Americans in issuing necessary permits for the export of Airbus and Boeing aircraft to Iran and stated that the U.S. intimidates major banks from cooperating with Iran. Another issue that Rouhani addressed upon his return from New York was the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling to block two billion dollars of Iranian assets. Rouhani emphasized: 'We will not allow the Americans to swallow the assets of the Iranian nation and the Central Bank; we will stand in international court and reclaim this money from them.' The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in May of this year that two billion dollars of Iran's frozen assets in the U.S. should be paid to the families of American victims of several terrorist operations attributed to Iran, including the 1983 bombings at the U.S. Marine barracks and French soldiers in Beirut, Lebanon's capital. Iran has strongly protested this ruling, and Rouhani also addressed this issue in his speech at the UN General Assembly.
