Hassan Rouhani Emphasizes 'Full Implementation' of JCPOA in Letter to Iran's Leader

Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, responded to Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in a letter, expressing gratitude for the 'continuous guidance and support' of the Supreme Leader regarding the nuclear file. In this letter, Rouhani described the approval of the Supreme National Security Council's resolution 634 on the JCPOA, which was emphasized in Khamenei's letter on Wednesday, as 'a source of joy for the great nation of Iran' and 'encouragement for the servants of the people in the government.' According to the Iranian President, the government will act towards 'the full and good faith implementation of the JCPOA' while 'observing the considerations and requirements' of the Supreme Leader and the resolutions of the Supreme National Security Council and the Islamic Consultative Assembly. The head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council also emphasized that 'the commitments of the other party will be monitored with complete vigilance, and appropriate decisions for a proportional response will be made in the Supreme National Security Council.' In another part of his letter to Ayatollah Khamenei, Rouhani stressed that two years ago, 'in the tense atmosphere of daily increasing threats, sanctions, and pressure,' such achievements seemed impossible to many. He went on to list some of the achievements of the nuclear negotiations and the approval of the JCPOA, stating that now 'the Zionist project of instilling fear and securitizing the Islamic Republic of Iran has failed.' The Iranian President further noted that 'the unjust economic, commercial, and financial sanctions imposed by the Security Council, the European Union, and the United States against the Islamic Republic of Iran have been lifted.' He reiterated that 'the structure of sanctions and the global psychological atmosphere' have collapsed. According to Rouhani, 'with the lifting of sanctions, the Iranian economy will begin a new chapter.' In the conclusion of his letter to Ayatollah Khamenei, which was a response to Khamenei's letter from the previous day, he expressed confidence that with the implementation of the JCPOA and the positive global atmosphere resulting from it, 'the means to secure the interests of the people and the comprehensive growth and prosperity of the country based on a resilient economy will be provided.' On Wednesday, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran wrote a letter to Hassan Rouhani confirming the Supreme National Security Council's resolution regarding the JCPOA, while also announcing nine requirements and conditions for its implementation. It is said that the resolution from August by the Supreme National Security Council also raised ten considerations for the implementation of the JCPOA.
