Hassan Rouhani: No one can undermine the achievements of the JCPOA

Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, stated on Wednesday that the nuclear agreement with six world powers, known as the JCPOA, has brought irreversible achievements for Iran that no one can "undermine." According to the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), Rouhani said at a gathering of economic activists in Alborz province: "In the matter of the JCPOA, we have achieved irreversible results that neither Europe nor the United States can disrupt." The Iranian president cited the closure of the PMD (Possible Military Dimensions) case and the import of yellowcake as among these achievements. According to ILNA, Rouhani also mentioned: "The International Atomic Energy Agency's claim from 2003 to 2015 was that we were secretly building a nuclear bomb, and all UN Security Council resolutions were based on the premise that Iran had violated the NPT. Today, under the JCPOA, we have reached a point where the Agency explicitly stated that the entire past case of Iran is closed." He further stated: "Many experts said the PMD agreement could not be resolved; how could the Council say it was wrong, especially since we were under pressure? But everything is possible if we use the power of thought, intellect, and the capabilities of the people, just as the revolution succeeded." According to IRNA, he said: "In confronting sanctions, the entire nation stood firm; otherwise, we would have been broken. Even Trump, in his speeches attacking the current U.S. government, says you gave Iran a chance in the nuclear negotiations." Following Donald Trump's victory in the U.S. presidential election, concerns have been raised about the future of the JCPOA. Trump referred to this nuclear agreement with Iran as one of the "worst" deals and stated that abandoning it would be one of his priorities. Meanwhile, Ali Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of Iran, said on Wednesday in his first speech after the U.S. presidential election: "America is still America, and the outcome of the election does not matter to us." Khamenei emphasized: "We have no judgment about this election because America is still America, and over the past 37 years, whichever of the two parties has been in power has only brought harm to the Iranian nation." According to Khamenei, "Unlike some who mourn for the outcome of the U.S. election or others who celebrate, we neither mourn nor celebrate because it does not matter to us." In this context, French President François Hollande stated on Tuesday that he does not believe Donald Trump will abandon the nuclear agreement between Iran and the six world powers.
