Hassan Rouhani's Press Conference on the Implementation of the JCPOA

Hassan Rouhani, the President of Iran, held a press conference on Sunday, January 17, regarding the implementation of the JCPOA. In this press conference, he stated that the conclusion of the JCPOA demonstrated that 'constructive interaction with the world is correct' and 'it became clear that the win-win policy is correct.' He emphasized, 'Those who thought they had to deceive others or that they would deceive us were mistaken, and we have shown that we can talk and negotiate with the world.' The Iranian President continued by saying, 'In America, whatever government comes to power later, the commitment made by the U.S. government is the commitment of that country and is not related to the coming of this government or that government.' Mr. Rouhani added, 'It is true that Zionists and extremists inside America are trying against this movement, but the world has come to the conclusion that the path of sanctions is not the correct way and is a lose-lose path.' He stated that the world's trust in Iran is now much greater than before. Hassan Rouhani further stated that 'from today, our air safety for passengers will increase, and from today, the unjust lock on blocked funds will be lifted.' He emphasized that Iran needs to move its economy forward with the influx of investment and to have more exports, adding that 'the JCPOA has removed obstacles from our path.' Mr. Rouhani clarified that 'if Americans want to invest in Iran, there are no obstacles right now, and if there are obstacles, they are in American laws.' He added that Americans have now removed obstacles to selling passenger planes to Iran and obstacles to the export of some Iranian goods to America, stating that 'this will benefit both the American and Iranian people' if other economic barriers are also removed. The Iranian President stressed that 'there is no obstacle from our side for investment or the entry of technology from the U.S.' Rouhani also spoke in the open session of the Islamic Consultative Assembly on Sunday morning before presenting the budget bill for the year 1395 and the sixth development plan, addressing the JCPOA. In this speech, referring to the implementation of the nuclear agreement and the beginning of the lifting of some sanctions against Iran, he stated that 'in the JCPOA, no faction has triumphed over another.' He said, 'No one has lost in the JCPOA, neither inside nor the countries that negotiated with us.' According to IRNA news agency, he added, 'Everyone is happy with the JCPOA. Except for the Zionists, the instigators, the divisive elements among the Islamic community, and the extremists in America, everyone else is happy.' During the negotiations of Iran's nuclear program with the 1+5 countries, factions within Iran have criticized the process and its results, but Hassan Rouhani on Sunday, among other things, referred to these factions, saying, 'We thank everyone who helped in this path, which is a national movement and its benefits are for the country and the nation, even critics helped us to continue the path more carefully.' The head of Iran's Supreme National Security Council emphasized, 'What we have achieved is the achievement of the entire nation and all branches, not just the government, and this achievement belongs to all three branches and all elements of the system.' After the International Atomic Energy Agency announced on Saturday night that Iran had taken all steps to begin implementing the JCPOA, Iranian foreign policy officials and the European Union announced that all national and multilateral financial and economic sanctions related to Iran's nuclear program were lifted in accordance with the JCPOA. In his first reaction to the implementation of the nuclear agreement, on Sunday, Rouhani stated in a message to Iranian citizens that 'we have extended our hands to the world as a sign of friendship, and by overcoming all hostilities, suspicions, and conspiracies, we have opened a new chapter in our relations with the world.' Meanwhile, Fars news agency reported on Sunday that Mohammad Javad Zarif, Iran's foreign minister, who played a crucial role in Iran's achievement of the JCPOA, is expected to hold a session with the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Parliament 'most likely next week' to provide explanations regarding 'various aspects of the implementation of the JCPOA.'
