According to the New York Times, a week after the murder, information on Bob Lee's phone revealed that Khazar Momeni expressed concern about her brother Nima Momeni confronting Bob Lee in a message to Bob Lee's phone. The prosecutor in the case stated, 'One of the likely reasons for Bob Lee's murder was his relationship with the sister of the suspect, who is of Iranian descent, and Momeni and Bob Lee had been together in a vehicle shortly before the stabbing.' Earlier, the San Francisco Chronicle reported that Nima Momeni immigrated to the United States with his family decades ago. Some local media reported that Nima and his sister Khazar faced domestic violence from their father during childhood, which led them to immigrate to the United States with their mother.
