Hengaw: 67 Prisoners Executed in One Month

The human rights organization 'Hengaw' reported on Saturday, June 1, that at least 67 prisoners were executed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic during the past month. According to the organization's statistics and documentation center, the identities of 66 of these prisoners have been confirmed. Hengaw reported that the highest number of executions occurred in the prisons of West Azerbaijan Province (Urmia) with 13 cases. Other provinces included Alborz with 10, Isfahan with 7, Fars with 6, and Kerman and East Azerbaijan each with 5 executions. Each of the prisons in Ardabil and Qom had 4 executions, Qazvin had 3, and Ilam, Razavi Khorasan, Zanjan, and Golestan each had 2. In the prisons of Kermanshah and Semnan, one execution was recorded in each. The report indicates that 37% of the death sentences were related to Kurdish prisoners, totaling 25 individuals. Additionally, 15 Turkish prisoners, 5 Baloch prisoners, and 3 Afghan nationals were also executed. The organization noted that in the past month, the death sentences of two Kurdish religious and ideological prisoners named Khosrow Basharat and Anvar Khazari were carried out in Qazalhesar Prison in Karaj. Furthermore, the death sentence of a child from Miandoab named Ramin Saadat was executed in the central prison of that city. During this period, at least four women were also executed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic. The names of these prisoners are Fariba Mohammadzehi from Zahedan in Kerman prison, Razieh from Mashhad in Vakilabad prison, Parvin Mousavi from Maragheh in Urmia prison, and Fatemeh Abdollapur from Nishapur in the central prison of Nishapur. Hengaw noted that the number of executions in May decreased by 10 cases, or 13%, compared to April, when 77 prisoners were executed. Meanwhile, the Iran Human Rights Organization reported on Friday, June 1, that 6 prisoners, including a child offender named 'Aref Rasouli', who reportedly committed 'premeditated murder' at the age of 17, were transferred to solitary confinement in the central prison of Shiraz (Adelabad) for execution. Earlier, Amnesty International reported on June 1 that a severe 48% increase in executions in Iran has contributed to a rise in global statistics. According to this human rights organization, the number of recorded executions in the past year in Middle Eastern countries, including Iran, has increased to its highest level in nearly a decade. Amnesty International stated that a total of 1153 death sentences were executed worldwide last year, marking a 30% increase compared to two years ago. This figure does not include thousands of executions in China due to the government's secrecy on this matter. The organization noted that one reason for the increase in global execution statistics is the widespread implementation of this punishment in Iran. It claims that the Islamic Republic executed at least 853 individuals last year, compared to 576 the previous year. The increase in global execution cases; 74% of the world's executions were carried out by the Islamic Republic in Iran.
