Hengaw: 74 Prisoners Executed in Iran in One Month

The human rights website "Hengaw" reported, citing verified statistics, that at least 74 prisoners were executed in the prisons of the Islamic Republic in the first month of the new Gregorian year. Hengaw added that in January 2024, 7 political and religious prisoners were executed in Iran, and 46% of those executed were Kurdish citizens. The website stated that out of the 74 executions in January, 46 were related to prisoners accused of drug-related crimes. Hengaw emphasized that only 12 of the 74 executions in January were officially announced in Iranian sources and websites affiliated with the judiciary. The execution of political and non-political prisoners in Iran has intensified in recent months, particularly the execution of political prisoners, which has sparked widespread domestic and international reactions in recent weeks. Currently, Mojahid Korkor, Reza Rasayi, Fazel Bahramian, Mehran Bahramian, Mohammad Javad Vafaee Sani, Mansour Dahmarde, and Abbas Daris, imprisoned protesters, are at risk of execution. The U.S. government has condemned these executions, and the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights has expressed concern over the sharp increase in the use of the death penalty in Iran, including the execution of Mohammad Qabadi and Farhad Salimi on the third of Bahman. Iranians abroad have also held numerous protests in various cities around the world in opposition to the executions in Iran.
