Hengaw: Possibility of Execution of Davood Abdollahi at Dawn on Tuesday, January 2

"Hengaw" reported on Monday, January 1, about the possibility of executing the death sentence of Davood Abdollahi, a Kurdish religious prisoner, at dawn on Tuesday, January 2. According to the report, a family member of Abdollahi informed "Hengaw" that they have been notified of the possibility of the execution occurring on Tuesday morning. Previously, the family had been told that his sentence would be carried out on Wednesday, January 3. The Iran Human Rights Organization announced on Sunday, January 1, that Davood Abdollahi, a Sunni prisoner sentenced to death, has gone on hunger strike after being transferred to quarantine in Gohardasht Prison for the execution of his sentence. According to this announcement, Abdollahi, who was transferred to solitary confinement on Tuesday, December 26, is on the fourth day of his hunger strike. His transfer, given his death sentence, has raised concerns among his family and loved ones. This Sunni prisoner has been in prison for 14 years on charges of what has been termed "corruption on earth," but human rights sources have described the handling of his case as "unfair." Davood Abdollahi was arrested in a joint case with several others for the murder of cleric "Abdul Rahim Tina" in 2008. He and six other Sunni prisoners were sentenced to death in March 2016 by Branch 28 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran, presided over by Judge Mohammad Mogheiseh. This sentence was overturned by the Supreme Court under Ali Razini. The case was referred back for re-examination to Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran, and their court session was held from June 17 to 19, 2019.
