Hezbollah Launches Dozens of Rockets into Northern Israel

Air raid sirens sounded in northern Israeli cities on Thursday, June 14, as the country's military reported that approximately 40 rockets were launched from Lebanon towards northern Israel that afternoon. Meanwhile, a Hezbollah media outlet claimed that over 100 rockets had been fired. The state network "Kan" broadcast images of multiple interceptions of aerial rockets over Israeli cities, including Safed, located about 12 kilometers from the border. According to Reuters, Israel's national ambulance service reported that two people were injured by shrapnel, and fires broke out in several forested areas due to the landing of some rockets. The Israeli military stated that multiple rocket launches were successfully intercepted and added that five "suspicious aerial targets" were identified, three of which were intercepted, presumably referring to drone flights. Meanwhile, Hezbollah announced that it had launched rockets and combat drones at nine Israeli military bases in a coordinated attack. This marked the second consecutive day of escalating hostilities at the southern Lebanese border. The group, supported by the Islamic Republic, stated that it fired "Katyusha" and "Falq" rockets at six Israeli military locations. Hezbollah's "Al-Manar" television reported that over 100 rockets were fired simultaneously. Hezbollah, which is backed by the Islamic Republic, began launching rockets from Lebanon towards northern Israel shortly after Hamas's attack on southern Israel on October 7 of the previous year. Since then, the Israel-Lebanon border has witnessed increasing attacks from both sides. Violence escalated this week following the killing of a Hezbollah commander, leading to the firing of 170 rockets by the group. The launch of 170 rockets into northern Israel was described by Hezbollah as retaliation for the death of its commander. The Israeli military has targeted "terrorist objectives" in Lebanon, and for the first time, Hezbollah claimed to have fired the "Falq-2" missile at Israel. The ongoing attacks by Hezbollah on northern Israel have drawn warnings from Netanyahu and concerns from the United States.
