Hezbollah Lebanon Fired Eight Missiles at Israel

The Lebanese group Hezbollah, which receives financial and military support from the Islamic Republic, announced on Thursday, November 16, that it had fired missiles at eight positions of Israeli forces in the border area between the two countries. Israel also stated that it responded to Hezbollah's missile fire with artillery. According to Reuters, Hezbollah said in a statement that it attacked eight positions of Israeli forces, including a gathering place for a group of Israeli soldiers, a military outpost, and several other military posts. A Lebanese security source told Reuters that Israeli attacks, including drone strikes, targeted at least twelve villages across the southern Lebanese border areas. In this regard, the Israeli army stated in a statement that it attacked a 'cell' in Lebanon that attempted to fire anti-tank missiles towards Israel and other targets that had carried out artillery attacks. According to the Israeli army, no damage was reported from Hezbollah's attacks on Israel. The Lebanese security source mentioned that Thursday was one of the most violent days since the onset of reciprocal attacks between Hezbollah and Israel following the sudden attack by Hamas militants on Israel on October 7. Hezbollah's statement indicated that the group's attacks were 'in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip.' According to Reuters, over the past few weeks of conflict, more than 70 Hezbollah militants and 10 civilians have been killed in Lebanon, while 10 individuals, including seven soldiers, have been killed in Israel. Thousands have also fled the region in both countries due to the escalating conflict. Concurrently with the rising tensions at the Lebanon-Israel border, Reuters reported on Wednesday, citing several 'officials,' that Iranian officials intend to continue using their proxy militant groups, including Hezbollah, to carry out missile and drone attacks against Israeli and American targets in the Middle East. According to that report, these unnamed officials stated that this strategy is a 'controlled' effort to show solidarity with Hamas in Gaza without Iran entering a direct confrontation with Israel, which could potentially involve the United States in the conflict.
