Hezbollah Lebanon Reports Death of 9 Members Following Israeli Army Attacks

The militant group Hezbollah Lebanon announced that 9 of its members were killed on Wednesday, January 3, following attacks by the Israeli army. According to the Associated Press, this number represents the highest daily toll of Hezbollah militants killed in approximately three months of border clashes with Israeli forces. Hezbollah has engaged in these clashes in support of the militant group Hamas and has launched rockets into northern Israel during this period. The report also stated that Hezbollah carried out 11 attacks against Israeli positions along the border areas on Wednesday, including four attacks using the 'Burkan' missile. Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel have escalated following the killing of Saleh al-Arouri, a leader of the Hamas militant group, at a Hezbollah base in the southern suburbs of Beirut, Lebanon's capital. This action came a month after the 'Kan' television network aired comments from the head of the 'Shin Bet', Israel's internal security agency, promising to hunt down Hamas leaders in Lebanon, Turkey, and Qatar, even if it takes years. Meanwhile, Hassan Nasrallah, the Secretary-General of this Iran-backed group, stated that the killing of Saleh al-Arouri would not go unanswered and that the group would take revenge, although he did not specify when or how this would occur. The Biden administration has dispatched a representative to the Middle East to help reduce tensions between Israel and Hezbollah. The killing of Saleh al-Arouri removes a significant name from Israel's wanted list. In response to al-Arouri's killing, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps emphasized 'strategic patience'.
