Hezbollah's Attacks on Northern Israel Continue; Netanyahu Warns, U.S. Expresses Concern

Tensions between Hezbollah and Israel escalated on Wednesday, June 6, as the Iran-backed group continued its attacks on Israel despite warnings from Netanyahu and concerns expressed by the United States. According to CNN, the Israeli army announced that several projectiles from Lebanon fell in northern Israel, with initial assessments indicating that Hezbollah militants used at least one explosive drone in this attack. Meanwhile, Israeli officials reported that at least 10 people were injured in northern Israel following the drone attack by Hezbollah on June 6. Hezbollah claimed on this day that it targeted Israel's Iron Dome air defense system in Ramot Naftali with a guided missile, but Israeli officials have not commented on this. Amid these tensions, a U.S. State Department spokesperson stated that the United States is 'very concerned' about the risk of escalating tensions at the Israel-Lebanon border. Matthew Miller told reporters at a press conference on Wednesday that 'this has been a concern for us since October 7, and we have been engaged in intensive diplomatic negotiations to prevent the escalation of these conflicts and to keep them under control.' Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, during a visit to northern areas of the country on June 6, threatened Lebanon with 'severe action' and stated, 'Anyone who thinks they can harm us while we stand idly by is making a grave mistake. We are prepared for severe action in the north and will ensure security there.' Naeem Qassem, the deputy secretary-general of Hezbollah, stated on Tuesday, June 5, in an interview with Qatar's Al Jazeera that Hezbollah does not seek to expand its conflict with Israel but is ready to fight any conflict imposed on it. This claim comes as Hezbollah announced on Tuesday that it launched a squadron of suicide drones towards Israel for the second consecutive day. Since the beginning of the war in Gaza last October, Lebanon has been a scene of conflict between Hezbollah and Israel, forcing tens of thousands on both sides of the Israel-Lebanon border to flee their homes for safety due to fears of a deeper war. The war between the Israeli army and the Islamist group Hamas began after a terrorist attack by this Iran-backed group on Israel on October 7, which resulted in the massacre of 1,200 people, mostly civilians, including women, children, and the elderly. In this terrorist attack, 253 individuals were taken hostage and brought to the Gaza Strip, with about 120 of them still held captive by Palestinian militants. In response to Hezbollah's actions, Netanyahu threatened Lebanon with 'severe action.' Additionally, Lieberman stated that the Iranian government is planning for a 'holocaust' in the next two years. The 'Standard Chartered' bank has been accused of $100 billion in financial transactions with Iran-backed groups. Netanyahu's largest coalition partner supports a possible agreement for the release of hostages. Reuters assessed the escalation of missile attacks by Iraqi Shiite militants on Israel, noting that it benefits no party.
