Hezbollah's Drone Attack on the Golan Heights; Israel: Two Hostile Aerial Targets 'Fell'

The Lebanese group Hezbollah announced that on Monday it targeted an Israeli air defense base in the Golan Heights with a drone attack. According to Reuters, the Israeli army also stated that two hostile aerial targets that entered Israeli territory from Lebanon in northern Golan 'fell in open areas.' Hezbollah claimed it used four unmanned aerial vehicles in this rare attack, striking the target with 'precision.' Hezbollah stated that this operation was in support of Palestinian militant groups in Gaza. Last month, Hezbollah also claimed to have fired missiles at the same target in the Golan Heights. Israel captured the Golan Heights in 1967. Hezbollah, an ally of the Islamic Republic, has been engaged with the Israeli army at the southern Lebanese border since October. At that time, Hezbollah stated it fired missiles towards Israel to support Hamas, which is at war with Israel in the Gaza Strip. Israeli attacks have mostly been limited to the southern border region of Lebanon, although there have been more recent attacks in northern areas as well. Since the October 7 terrorist attack by Hamas on Israel, which resulted in the deaths of 1,200 people and the hostage-taking of over 250 others, and the subsequent Israeli counterattacks on Gaza, Hezbollah has used surface-to-air missiles several times to target Israeli aircraft. The group has also launched its reconnaissance drones into northern Israel. The Israeli army also announced that Israeli fighter jets targeted a Hezbollah military base in the border area and conducted nighttime attacks on another Hezbollah base. According to medical and security sources, over 60 civilians and more than 200 Hezbollah fighters have been killed in Israel's retaliatory attacks on Lebanon. A U.S. Treasury official pressured Lebanon to stop the transfer of money from Iran to Hezbollah. The Israeli army has conducted exercises in preparation for a 'potential war' in southern Lebanon. A U.S. special envoy warned that if a war breaks out at the Israel-Lebanon border, it would be 'uncontrollable.' Regional reports indicate that the IRGC has given Hezbollah the green light to increase attacks on Israel.
