Hillary Clinton and Her Life Story in the White House

Hillary Clinton, the former First Lady of the United States and now a Senator from New York, has published her autobiography detailing her eight years in the White House with much fanfare and publicity. The book reveals embarrassing details about her husband, President Clinton's relationship with Monica Lewinsky. In 'Living History,' the wife of the former U.S. President recalls moments when her husband told her the truth about what he called his 'improper' relationship with Ms. Lewinsky, an intern at the White House. Mrs. Hillary Rodham Clinton writes, 'I felt like I was choking on air and could hardly breathe. I was screaming in tears, what do you mean? What do you want to say? Why did you lie to me? I was angry, and my anger kept increasing. He stood still in a corner, repeatedly saying he was sorry, he was sorry. He said his intention with the lie was to keep me and our daughter Chelsea away from this affair.' Mrs. Clinton hopes that those who read her book will not merely seek details about a troubled couple: 'It is a detailed book about my life and all the issues I was involved in, especially those concerning women and children; a summary of things I have been interested in since my childhood. I believe the book provides insight to the reader and may answer some questions.' The book's publisher, Simon & Schuster, paid Mrs. Clinton $8 million for the 560-page book. The publisher has printed one million copies, which is unusual for a first print run. So far, 16 countries have purchased the rights to translate and publish Senator Clinton's book.
