Hollande: If Trump is Elected, There Will Be Global Consequences

He stated that if Mr. Trump is elected President of the United States, such an election will have consequences, as elections in the U.S. are global elections. According to the French news agency, Hollande, speaking to reporters, expressed that Trump's extreme approach is disgusting, even in the United States, especially when he spoke about a soldier and his memory. Khizr Khan, the father of Humayun Khan, criticized Trump during his speech at the Democratic National Convention last week, but the Republican candidate responded by saying that Mr. Khan had no right to criticize him. Trump's remarks regarding this speech and his questioning of why Ghazala Khan, Humayun Khan's mother, did not speak at the Democratic convention, suggesting that as a Muslim woman she may not have been allowed to speak, have sparked widespread reactions. Hollande criticized Trump's 'repugnant and humiliating' statements. The French President emphasized that democracy is at risk, as we see more and more people leaning towards tyranny, especially in the U.S. He added that Americans might choose Trump, and such a choice would have consequences, as U.S. elections are global elections. Hollande also expressed concern about the changes that a Trump presidency could bring to international politics. He stated that themes and methods presented in the U.S. elections will later enter the electoral battles in France. The French President, however, stressed that a Trump presidency, which was previously unimaginable, is now conceivable. While the French President criticized Trump, Barack Obama, the President of the United States, stated that he is unworthy of the presidency. He added that it is time for Republican leaders to condemn Mr. Trump and withdraw their support for him.
