Hollywood Strike; Negotiations Between Writers Guild Representatives and Major Studios Ended Without Result

Negotiators from the Writers Guild of America met for the first time on Friday, August 4, since the start of the three-month Hollywood writers' strike, with representatives from major studios regarding the resumption of negotiations. According to the writers' union, no agreement was reached during this meeting. In a statement released after the Friday session, the Writers Guild of America announced that the Producers Guild of America is willing to increase its proposals regarding minimum television wages and discuss artificial intelligence, but has shown no willingness to engage in issues related to screenwriters and other proposals. The Writers Guild's statement read: 'In addition to a comprehensive response from the Producers Guild to our proposals in all areas of work, issues arising from the strike, including the extension of health insurance and additional funding for it, the return of striking writers to work, and arbitration of disputes arising from the strike must also be addressed.' Since May, thousands of television writers and works written by members of this guild have gone on strike due to concerns about wages and benefits, and artificial intelligence, which has jeopardized their job futures. This strike expanded in July with the joining of tens of thousands of actors from the Actors Guild, effectively halting nearly all Hollywood productions.
