Hosseyn Hamadani, Senior Commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Killed in Syria

Hosseyn Hamadani, a senior commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) of Iran, was killed in Syria. The Fars News Agency, close to the IRGC, reported that Mr. Hamadani was killed on Thursday night, October 8. The Sepah News Agency confirmed this news, referring to Hosseyn Hamadani as one of the 'commanders of the Sacred Defense era, senior advisors of the IRGC, and defenders of the shrine over the past years who played a decisive role in protecting the shrine of Hazrat Zainab and supporting and strengthening the Islamic Resistance front in the Syrian terrorist war.' The Mizan news agency, affiliated with the judiciary of the Islamic Republic, reported that this senior IRGC commander was killed by 'ISIS terrorists.' Mr. Hamadani held the rank of brigadier general, and Sepah News announced that he was killed in the 'suburbs of Aleppo' in Syria. This senior IRGC commander was in charge of the Mohammad Rasoulallah Corps in Tehran during the suppression of the protest movement following the presidential election of 2009 and on Ashura of that year. Hosseyn Hamadani (the person in front of the picture) was last publicly seen in the office of Ali Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic, on September 16, 2015. Mr. Hamadani's name was placed on the European Union sanctions list due to his involvement in the suppression of the Iranian people and human rights violations. Sepah News also reported that Hosseyn Hamadani was killed while carrying out 'advisory missions.'
