Hosseyn Razagh, Political Activist, Released from Prison

A number of activists and civil society members reported the release of Hosseyn Razagh, a political prisoner, by sharing images. According to these reports, he was released from Evin Prison on Tuesday, June 11. Hosseyn Razagh is one of the founders of the 'Freedom Square' room on the social media platform Clubhouse, who was arrested at his home in Amol in December 2021. He was among the political prisoners held in Evin who condemned the Iranian judiciary's action of 'exiling' Saeed Madani, a social researcher and civil activist, to Damavand Prison in a letter confirming reports. The Telegram channel 'Hosseyn Razagh' announced on Saturday, March 16, 2023, that this political prisoner has filed complaints against several security and judicial officials for 'assaulting him in Ward 209 of Evin Prison,' which belongs to the Ministry of Intelligence. The pressure and torture on Hosseyn Razagh during his detention occurred while forensic medicine confirmed his suffering from several physical illnesses. On April 8 of this year, Radio Farda reported that Hosseyn Razagh, who was serving his sentence in Evin Prison, was sentenced to 74 lashes for what was described as 'absence and failure to report to prison.' This sentence was issued while Mr. Razagh has been serving his prison sentence since his arrest on August 21, 2022, in Amol and his transfer to Evin Prison, and he was only granted a few days of medical leave in April 2023 due to his deteriorating health. He was then returned to prison despite the forensic opinion. This political prisoner was released after 30 months from prison while being convicted of charges such as 'gathering and collusion,' 'acting against national security,' and 'propaganda against the regime.'
