Human Rights Observers: ISIS has Executed 1,432 Syrians Since July

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reports that ISIS has killed 1,432 Syrians since declaring the establishment of the Islamic Caliphate on July 8 of this year. According to a report by Reuters, the London-based group stated on Monday, November 26, that beheading, stoning, and shooting victims in non-war conditions are the most common methods used by ISIS to kill its opponents. Of these victims, 882 were civilians, including five women and two children. One child was accused of photographing an ISIS leadership location, while the other was accused of insulting the Prophet Muhammad. Both were executed by gunfire. Additionally, 483 armed forces loyal to the Syrian central government captured by the Islamic State, 63 Kurdish militants, and four members of ISIS were also among the victims during this period. Since its establishment, ISIS has also beheaded several foreign citizens it had taken hostage. The statistics from the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights are limited to Syria and do not mention the thousands of victims of ISIS in Iraq. This brutal group has captured vast areas of Iraq and Syria in recent years. The efforts of the Syrian government and army to combat this group and other armed opposition groups have not yet yielded clear results, and the international community has also failed to find a solution to the Syrian crisis, which has left more than 200,000 dead in the last three years. Meanwhile, Ali Haidar, the Syrian Minister of National Reconciliation, stated that Damascus is 'principally' in favor of the UN representative's proposal for a ceasefire in the country but needs more details. These remarks come a week after UN representative Stefan de Mistura met with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, during which he presented his plan. The Syrian president described the plan as 'worthy of study.' The proposal anticipates that a ceasefire between the conflicting parties will allow humanitarian aid to be provided to victims and citizens, and then move towards further negotiations for a final peace. The Syrian Minister of National Reconciliation told the Associated Press that the UN representative only referred to the main issues in his plan and did not provide a comprehensive proposal but faced the Syrian government's 'positive intent' to cooperate.
