Human Rights Organization Report on the Status of 77 Female Prisoners in Evin

On Wednesday, February 10, the HRANA news agency reported on the latest list and current status of 77 political and security female prisoners, of which 69 are currently imprisoned in Evin Prison and 8 have been granted leave. According to the news organization of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, Judge Iman Afshari, head of Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran, has played the most significant role in determining the sentences for at least 33 of these prisoners. The report continues that Judge Abolqasem Salavati, head of Branch 15 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Tehran, is responsible for issuing sentences for at least 17 of these women. These two judges have also issued death sentences for Variesh Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi, two imprisoned civil activists. According to the report, 69 female prisoners are held in the general quarantine sections of Evin Prison, while 8 other prisoners, including Narges Mohammadi, Samaneh Nowruz Moradi, Rezvaneh Ahmadkhani, Bahareh Hedayat, Zohreh Sayadi, Mahvash Sabat (Shahriari), Kimia Baniadam, and Shabnam Nematizadeh, are on leave. Among these prisoners, 11 remain in an uncertain status, and two of them, Variesh Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi, have been sentenced to death. Some of these prisoners have been tried in courts in Mashhad, Shahriar, and other judicial authorities. According to the news organization of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, Maryam Hajihosseini is one of the oldest prisoners in this group, having been imprisoned since late 2019 on charges of espionage. Another prisoner, Farahnaz Nikkhou, is serving a ten-year sentence also on espionage charges. The report also adds that some prisoners in this section are over 60 years old and, despite their poor physical condition, are deprived of specialized medical care. According to HRANA, the youngest prisoner in this section, Kimia Baniadam, is 20 years old and has recently been granted leave. Golrokh Iraei, Elaheh Fooladi, Pakhshan Azizi, Maryam Yahyavi, Matheereh Ghonei, Vida Rabani, Variesh Moradi, and Zahra Safaei are prisoners who have been deprived of family visits for unclear reasons by the authorities of Evin Prison. According to this report, four of the political prisoners are labor activists serving their sentences. The names of these prisoners are Nasrin Javadi, Nahid Khodajoo, Reyhaneh Ansari-Nejad, and Anisha Asadollahi. Variesh Moradi, a political prisoner sentenced to death, stated that society is resisting repression. The continued deprivation of treatment for Rahila Rahimipour, an elderly civil activist in Evin Prison, has been reported. Amnesty International has called for the immediate cancellation of the death sentences for six prisoners in Evin. Narges Mohammadi stated that executioners have erected gallows in Iran's prisons. The campaign for the freedom of Variesh Moradi asserts that the life of this political prisoner remains in danger.
