Hundreds Arrested Following Protests at a U.S. Congressional Building

Media in the U.S. reported that hundreds were arrested by police following protests at a U.S. Congressional building on Wednesday, October 18. In this regard, the U.S. Capitol Police wrote on the messaging platform 'X' that demonstrators were arrested in the 'Canton Rotunda' building and the surrounding blocked streets, adding that three of them were charged with assaulting a police officer. The number of those arrested was not mentioned in the message. Previously, reports indicated that a protest was held calling for a ceasefire in the Israel-Hamas war. This protest was organized by about 400 members of two anti-Zionist Jewish groups named 'Jewish Voice for Peace' and 'If Not Now.' They chanted, 'Ceasefire now' and sang songs in Hebrew and English. These two groups claim that at least 300 people have been arrested. The protest took place under conditions where such actions are not permitted in U.S. Congressional buildings. Since the attack by Hamas militants on southern Israel on October 7, thousands, especially civilians, have been killed and thousands more injured. Additionally, over 200 Israeli civilians and soldiers have been taken hostage by Hamas and Islamic Jihad militants, with little information available on the majority of them.
