Hundreds of Civil Activists Demand Immediate Release of Mohammad Nourizad

More than 950 civil and political activists residing in Iran and other parts of the world have called for the immediate release of Mohammad Nourizad, a political prisoner held in Evin Prison, citing his physical condition and detention circumstances. The signatories of this statement, a copy of which was received by Radio Farda on Saturday, January 8, have warned that he is at risk of 'life-threatening dangers' at any moment. According to the statement, Mohammad Nourizad has been transferred to solitary confinement with his hands and feet shackled due to his protests against the drug mafia in prison, and he has spent two nights and three days in cold weather and is currently on a hunger strike and refusing medication. Narges Mohammadi, Nasrin Sotoudeh, Abdolfattah Soltani, Hashem Khastar, Abolfazl Ghadiani, and Kourosh Zaeim are among the signatories of this statement. Saeed Dehghan, a lawyer and human rights activist residing in Canada and one of the signatories, emphasized in an interview with Radio Farda that the Islamic Republic's treatment of Mohammad Nourizad is 'more of a revenge than a legal punishment.' A few days ago, Fatemeh Maleki, Mohammad Nourizad's wife, told Radio Farda that the political prisoner's physical condition is very poor due to prison conditions and his hunger strike. Shahnaaz Akmali, Shoaleh Pakrovan, Ghasem Shoaleh Saadi, and Abbas Vahidian Shahroudi are other signatories of the statement for Mr. Nourizad's freedom. Mohammad Nourizad, a documentary filmmaker, journalist, and political activist, was sentenced to 15 years in prison and other penalties following his political criticisms and signing a letter calling for the resignation of Ali Khamenei, and he is currently serving his tenth year in Evin Prison.
