Ibrahim Golestan, Renowned Iranian Writer and Director, Passes Away in Britain

Ibrahim Golestan, the famous Iranian writer and filmmaker, passed away on Tuesday, August 22, at his home in Britain. Ibrahim Taghavi Shirazi, known as Ibrahim Golestan, was born in Shiraz and emigrated from Iran before the 1979 Revolution. He was 101 years old at the time of his death. His daughter, Leili Golestan, director of Golestan Gallery in Tehran and a well-known translator, confirmed the news of Mr. Golestan's passing. His films include 'The Hills of Marlik,' 'Brick and Mirror,' 'The Secrets of the Treasure Valley,' 'Wave and Coral and Stone,' and 'From Drop to Sea.' Ibrahim Golestan also produced the film 'The House is Black,' directed by Forough Farrokhzad. Following his death, the Iranian Directors Guild issued a statement describing him as an intellectual who 'gave a new spirit to Iranian cinema before the New Wave.' In this statement, Ibrahim Golestan is described as a writer and storyteller 'in unparalleled writing and speech' and a documentary filmmaker who 'composed poetry from water, fire, wind, and iron, and all of this in these hundred years was brief, like a blink of an eye.' His daughter, Leili Golestan, also reacted to his passing by posting a photo of him on Instagram, writing: 'Father, you have gone. Goodbye.'
