Reports released on the last day of Aban indicate that Israel and Hamas, with mediation from the United States and Qatar, are nearing a mutual agreement to release a number of hostages who have been held by Hamas since October 7. According to Israeli news sources, Hamas has agreed to release 50 hostages, including 30 children and 20 women, who are being held in Gaza. Reuters also reported, citing a source familiar with the negotiations, that Hamas is set to release 50 women and children, including some foreign nationals, while Israel will release 150 Palestinian prisoners, most of whom are women and minors, during a four-day ceasefire. Channel 12 of Israeli television reported that Hamas has also stated that it holds 210 hostages out of approximately 240 kidnapped on October 7, with the remaining hostages likely held by the Islamic Jihad group. An Israeli government source also mentioned that the hostage deal includes a second phase, during which Hamas will act to locate women and children held by other 'terrorist' groups in Gaza. According to the Times of Israel, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated during cabinet discussions about the hostage deal that part of the agreement includes access for the Red Cross to those who will remain hostages in Gaza. He also mentioned that under this agreement, hostages held by this group will be released in stages. Furthermore, Netanyahu referred to the possibility of establishing a temporary 'ceasefire' with Hamas and emphasized that after the ceasefire and the release of hostages, the 'war against Hamas' will not cease. Meanwhile, Majid Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Foreign Ministry, told CNN on Tuesday that Qatar proposed a three-day ceasefire and the release of hostages to Israel in the early hours of the morning after weeks of continuous negotiations. U.S. President Joe Biden also stated on November 30 that an agreement for the release of some hostages held by Hamas in Gaza is 'very close,' but he refrained from providing further details.
