Indictment Issued for Mashallah Karami on Four Charges; First Trial Session Scheduled for April 29

Mashallah Karami's lawyer announced that the case of this grieving father has been sent to the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Karaj and the Criminal Court 2 of Neyshabur after the indictment was issued with four charges. According to the news channel 'Emtidad' on Thursday, March 15, Ali Sharifzadeh Ardakani, one of Mashallah Karami's lawyers, stated that the Neyshabur Criminal Court has set the hearing date for the case of the grieving father of Mohammad Mahdi Karami for April 29, but the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Karaj has not yet scheduled a hearing date for the case. He mentioned that two charges of 'propaganda against the regime' and 'gathering and collusion with the intent to commit a crime against national security' attributed to Mashallah Karami have been referred to the Islamic Revolutionary Court, and 'the charges related to the Criminal Court 2 include Article 2 of the Intensified Law (acquisition of unlawful property) and Article 9 of the Anti-Money Laundering Law.' Ali Sharifzadeh also announced that 'the mental state of Mashallah Karami's wife is not good' and emphasized that the lawyers have requested the judicial authorities of Alborz Province to release their client with appropriate bail. While Mashallah Karami, the grieving father of Mohammad Mahdi Karami, who was executed in 2022, has been in prison for over 200 days, this lawyer stated that they have recently taken on the case of this political prisoner alongside Shahla Orooji and are pursuing a proper process to defend their client's rights. Sharifzadeh, who met Mashallah Karami in Karaj Central Prison, reported his general condition as 'good' but noted that 'sorrow from the loss of his child, family, and society was abundant within him.' The lawyer also stated that 'they have not yet been granted access to and a complete review of the case file' and mentioned that they have requested the judicial authorities of Alborz Province to release this political prisoner 'with appropriate bail until the case is heard.' Mashallah Karami was arrested on August 22 by the intelligence agencies of the Islamic Republic, and the agents seized his electronic devices and blocked his family's bank cards. Following continued harassment of other members of the Karami family, on November 3, more than 70 days after Mashallah Karami's arrest, his wife and another child were forced to leave their home due to 'multiple raids' by agents.
