Initial Reports of Incidents in the Red Sea; US: We Will Respond to Houthi Movements

The UK Maritime Trade Operations and the UK maritime security company Ambrey reported separate incidents in the Red Sea near the port of Hodeidah, Yemen, on Tuesday; an incident occurred 93 kilometers west of the port of Hodeidah, and experts are examining initial reports. According to Reuters, Ambrey has received reports of suspicious activity from two commercial vessels southwest of the port of Mukha in Yemen, stating that a tanker or flames or missile trails were observed. Simultaneously, in another event, a bulk carrier identified and reported three small vessels almost a mile away. The Ambrey report added: 'While a drone was flying ahead of the ship, the bulk carrier observed that two missiles were fired from the boats.' The assessment from the UK maritime security company Ambrey indicates that this incident is separate from another event reported at the same time west of the port of Hodeidah. Additionally, hours earlier, a Yemeni military source told Al Jazeera that 'the Houthis of Yemen, officially known as Ansar Allah affiliated with the Islamic Republic, targeted a ship in the Red Sea.' The Times of Israel also reported that the UK Maritime Trade Operations received a report of an incident in the Red Sea 50 miles west of the port city of Hodeidah, Yemen. An American official also told Fox News on Tuesday that a US Navy ship shot down several drones and missiles fired from areas controlled by the Iranian-backed Houthis in the Red Sea. No commercial vessels in the area were harmed during this confrontation. Earlier, Antony Blinken, the US Secretary of State, stated at the end of his visit to Israel that the Biden administration is prepared to respond to Houthi movements supported by the Islamic Republic in the Red Sea, as it has in the past. The Houthi campaign has caused unprecedented disruptions to global shipping, leading some companies to take a much longer and costlier route around the African continent instead of the international waterway of the Red Sea. The White House states that the Islamic Republic is heavily involved in planning attacks against commercial vessels in the Red Sea, and the information it provides is vital for targeting ships by the Houthis. Adrienne Watson, the White House National Security spokesperson, said on Friday, 'We know that the Islamic Republic has been heavily involved in planning attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea. This aligns with the Islamic Republic's long-term material support and encouragement of the Houthis' destabilizing actions in the region.' She added, 'This is an international challenge that requires collective action.' Associated Press: Concerns about the onset of a 'full-scale war' in the region have increased. The commander of the IRGC threatens to attack the enemy 'from afar and near' despite calls to stop destabilizing actions. A global container shipping giant has warned its customers about the potential for 'major disruption' and is sending its ships with 'escort' around the Red Sea. Blinken discusses increasing humanitarian aid to Gaza and preventing the escalation of tensions in the region. The Houthis claim: 'We have guaranteed maritime transport security; the US is a threat to shipping in international waters.' The Houthi attack failed one day after the 'final warning' from the US and its allies.
