Intense Attacks by Trump's Rivals During Republican Debate

Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, Donald Trump's main rivals in the Republican primary elections in the United States, have launched severe attacks against him, questioning many of his campaign promises and statements. The latest Republican debate, part of the process to determine the final nominee for the 2016 presidential election, took place on the Fox television network. Donald Trump is currently leading in the primary elections to determine the final nominee. According to Reuters, participants in the Fox debate targeted many of the previous statements and opinions of this American billionaire, contrasting them with what he currently says, covering topics from the Iraq war to immigration issues. Trump has stated, 'One must always be somewhat flexible.' Senators Rubio and Cruz questioned Trump's harsh comments against immigrants, noting that he simultaneously employs foreign workers at his private estate in Florida. Trump claimed they were employed for a short period because others do not accept short-term jobs; 'As a result, we bring them in (for work) and then send them back.' Cruz has asked Trump to make a previously unreleased part of his interview with The New York Times available to the public. According to Trump's rivals, he is actually more flexible on immigration issues than he presents publicly. In his public speeches, Trump states that if he becomes president, he will build a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border and deport 11 million undocumented immigrants. In the Fox debate, he refrained from discussing his private remarks in The New York Times but indicated he would adopt a more flexible approach, such as 'shortening the height of the wall he wants to build.' He also mentioned that most highly educated and skilled foreign workers should be allowed to stay in the U.S. NPR shows the time each candidate has taken during the debate. Trump's rivals have also stated that he is not the right candidate to compete against Hillary Clinton because he previously financially supported her campaign. Trump claims he did this for money and added, 'The person Hillary Clinton does not want to face is Donald Trump.' Hillary Clinton is the leading Democratic candidate for the presidential election this year and is currently competing against Bernie Sanders, the senator from Vermont. In recent days, the intensity of attacks from some prominent Republican figures against Donald Trump has increased. On March 4, Mitt Romney, the Republican candidate in the 2012 presidential election, described Trump as a 'hypocrite' and urged Republicans to reject him for the sake of the country and the party.
