Interference by Security Institutions to Extend the 'Unjust Imprisonment' of Tomaj Salehi

The page attributed to Tomaj Salehi on the social media platform 'X' reported interference by security institutions to prolong the 'unjust imprisonment' of this protesting rapper and called for converting 'the baseless detention order of Tomaj Salehi into a bail order.' Based on information published on this page on Saturday, July 7, despite two weeks having passed since the annulment of the sentences against Tomaj Salehi, the officials of the Revolutionary Court of Isfahan have refrained from announcing the receipt of the case to determine its status and assign a new branch, aiming to continue his 'unjust imprisonment.' Recently, the Supreme Court of Iran, in addition to overturning Tomaj Salehi's death sentence, imprisoned in Dastgerd prison in Isfahan, also declared his sentence of six years and three months as 'excessive beyond the legal punishment.' Abram Pili, Deputy Special Representative of the U.S. State Department for Iran, described this action as 'a pretense of flexibility' by the Islamic Republic aimed at 'misleading the world' and a judicial trick by the 'Iranian regime' to 'silence dissenters.' The page attributed to Tomaj Salehi emphasized the 'groundless nature of the accusations' against him and noted that more than a year has passed since his 'illegal detention,' adding: 'With the annulment of the charges, Tomaj has been in illegal detention without any legal justification for two weeks.' Amnesty International also recommended to the authorities of the Islamic Republic in July of this year to release this imprisoned rapper 'immediately and unconditionally' instead of prolonging the legal process against him. Tomaj Salehi was arrested in early November 2022 during the nationwide protests of 'Women, Life, Freedom' and was sent to prison. He was released on bail a year later but was re-arrested after a few days. The first branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Isfahan tried this protesting singer on April 19 of this year on charges of 'conspiracy and collusion, and aiding in rebellion,' and his death sentence was communicated to his lawyers on May 25. Reactions to the annulment of Tomaj Salehi's 'death sentence' included calls from political and human rights figures for pressure on the Islamic Republic and the release of Tomaj. The lawyer of Shervin Hajipour criticized the government's propaganda use of the song 'Baraye,' while Tomaj Salehi's lawyer reported the annulment of his death sentence. Vafa Ahmadpour and Daniel Moghaddam were transferred from the Shiraz Information Detention Center to Adelabad Prison.
