International Atomic Energy Agency: Iran Remains Committed to the JCPOA

The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency stated that Iran has remained committed to its obligations under the JCPOA. Yukiya Amano, in a press conference broadcast live on the International Atomic Energy Agency's Facebook page on Thursday, December 1, emphasized the importance of Iran's continued adherence to the JCPOA and its commitments in this regard. Mr. Amano's remarks come as the United States withdrew from the nuclear agreement with Iran, involving six world powers, in May of this year, leading to the resumption of Washington's sanctions against Iran. The U.S. is also attempting to bring Iran back to the negotiating table with a twelve-point request, including a complete suspension of uranium enrichment, aiming for a new agreement with the Islamic Republic. The other members of the nuclear agreement, including Britain, France, Germany, Russia, and China, have supported the JCPOA and expressed their opposition to the U.S. withdrawal from this agreement. In response to a question about Israel's claim of access to documents indicating Iran's clandestine nuclear activities, Mr. Amano noted that the Agency receives information from all sources and announces its assessments based on comprehensive and professional analysis of this information. Regarding the verification of Israel's claims about Iran, he stated that 'the Agency does not make its verification process public.' According to him, if the Agency has concerns about a matter, it refers it to the Agency's Board of Governors, and the verification of claims and information provided is time-consuming. Mr. Amano remarked: 'These matters are very sensitive and ultimately, a comprehensive and accurate view of the situation must be obtained for actions to be taken.' Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed in his speech at the United Nations in October of this year that Iran has another 'secret nuclear warehouse' near Tehran. The Prime Minister identified the location of this 'secret warehouse' as Maher Alley in Torqozabad, Tehran, a place he said is near a simple carpet cleaning shop. He previously held a press conference announcing the acquisition of 'over half a ton of documents' including 55,000 files on 183 CDs, regarding Iran's clandestine nuclear research in a project known as 'Imad,' which he referred to as a 'major intelligence achievement' for Israel without mentioning how these documents were obtained. According to Benjamin Netanyahu, these documents 'conclusively' prove that Iran continues to 'shamelessly deceive' the international community and has moved its nuclear program after the JCPOA to hidden locations, apart from Iran's known nuclear sites. Iran has denied these claims.
