International Day of Persons with Disabilities; Empowerment, Participation, and Equality

The United Nations designated December 3rd, 26 years ago, as the "International Day of Persons with Disabilities" to raise awareness about the issues faced by these individuals in various social, economic, and cultural aspects. According to the United Nations, the theme for this year's December 3rd is "Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Their Participation and Equality." What conditions do persons with disabilities live in Iran? To what extent are urban spaces and public transportation adapted for them? What challenges do they face in terms of healthcare, education, employment, and mobility in urban areas? Hear the answers to these questions from them in a special program for this occasion. According to the United Nations, 15% of the world's population, or about one billion people, live with some form of disability. Different from the majority but deserving of equal rights, rights that are overlooked in some parts of the world. This year's International Day of Persons with Disabilities arrives at a time when persons with disabilities in Iran, a population of over 10 million, according to activists in this field, continue to be marginalized and often forced into isolation. Citizens with special needs who should have equal rights as other citizens.
