Investigation Begins into Ethiopian Airlines Plane Crash in France

Investigations into the black box of the Ethiopian Airlines plane that crashed on Sunday will begin on Friday, March 15, in France. This aviation disaster has provoked anger among grieving families and has led to the grounding of all Boeing 737 Max aircraft. In the crash of the Ethiopian Airlines plane, which occurred shortly after takeoff from Addis Ababa airport, 157 passengers and crew from 35 countries were killed. This is the second incident involving advanced Boeing aircraft in the past six months. The possibility of similarities and connections between the two Boeing 737 Max crashes has shaken the commercial aviation industry, raised concerns among passengers worldwide, and forced Boeing, the largest aircraft manufacturer in the world, to justify the safety of this model of its very expensive products, which it promised would innovate the aviation industry for decades to come. Families of the victims angrily left a meeting with Ethiopian Airlines officials on Thursday, complaining about the lack of transparency. A group of these families went to the crash site. Many countries around the world, including the United States, which hesitated and delayed this decision, have grounded all 371 of these Boeing models. Airlines have mostly been able to compensate for this shortage by using other aircraft. Boeing has received about 5,000 additional orders for this model, and as a result of these incidents and the outcome of investigations, there will be significant financial implications for the aviation manufacturing and passenger airline industry. After several days of discussion about the location and agency that will conduct the investigation into the Ethiopian plane crash, the flight data and cockpit information, along with the black box of the aircraft, were finally handed over to the French Bureau of Enquiry and Analysis for Civil Aviation Safety. Technical investigations are set to begin on Friday, and as the French Civil Aviation Authority announced, the first results of the investigations will be published several days later. Since Wednesday, when the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration also decided to ground all Boeing 737 Max aircraft, the results of these investigations have gained more importance and urgency. The FAA stated that the analysis of satellite images and evidence related to the crash site of the Ethiopian aircraft indicates similarities with the crash of the Indonesian airline in October, which resulted in 189 fatalities. The acting director of the FAA said on Thursday that this decision was made based on evidence and not on its impact on Boeing. He added, 'Our duty is solely to make decisions based on safety.' Despite Boeing's insistence that this model is completely safe, it has supported the FAA's decision. Boeing's stock value has recently decreased by about 11%, resulting in a financial loss of approximately $26 billion for the company. It is still unclear how long the Boeing aircraft will remain grounded, but the suspension of flights for these aircraft continues from other countries and airlines. WestJet Airlines canceled 11 of its flights with these aircraft on Thursday.
